Fire Dispatch Level - Details and Assumptions

Details:

CFES2 uses the 92nd Behavior Percentile determined in animation #5 to select a 92nd percentile Burning Index (BI) value from a distribution obtained through the use of the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS). The BI reflects both the energy released and the rate of spread, and is designed to relate well to flame length.

In this hypothetical example, the BI value is 48, and in the HIGH Fire Dispatch Level range.

Assumptions:

• Weather Station is Wolf Creek L.O. (CDF, 2636', Lat 39.1)
• NFDRS Fuel model is B (Hard Chaparral old-growth)
• Slope Class is 26-40%
• Herbaceous Type is Annual
• Climate Class is 2 (Sub-humid with rain deficient in summer)
• NFDRS index used to determine Fire Dispatch Level is Burning Index (BI)
• Low/medium break for BI is 20
• Medium/high break for BI is 40
