derived from fire overlays of the Southern California Fires of 2003.

coarse, preliminary assessments of the fire perimeters, and fire
sizes, and may change or not correspond to other officially reported
acreage. Areas close to, or inside of the perimeters represented
here may or may not have actually burned. The user will not seek

By Individual Fire (area burned in
Acres)
- Threat:
Wildland fire threat.
- Surface Fuels:
Surface fuels in the Fire Behavior Prediction System (FBPS).
Along with slope and expected fire frequency, fuels are a major component in determining
fire threat. For state- and county-wide data on surface fuels, and metadata, see
http://frap.cdf.ca.gov/data/frapgisdata/select.asp
- Fire
Threat to Communities: Pre-fire
risk to communities defined by FRAP as having 1 house per 20 acres
or greater density and within 2400 meters of High, Very High or
Extreme threat as determined from fuel and fire occurrence history.
- Owner:
Major land ownership classes.
- Mortality
Zone: Area infested by the
Bark Beetle as determined by the USDA Forest Service aerial survey
of September, 2003.
- Vegetation Type
(Dominant): CALVEG vegetation
types.
All Burned Areas (Acres)
- Threat
by WHR13: Fire threat for major
groupings of the California Wildlife Habitat Relationships System
(CWHR) as defined by FRAP (all burned acres).
- WHR13 by
Owner: CWHR grouping by major
land ownership classes (all burned areas).
- Erosion
Potential (Post Fire) by Owner: Post
fire erosion potential rankings by major land ownership classes
(all burned areas).
- Mortality Zone:
Area burned or not burned within the zone
infested by the Bark Beetle as determined by the USDA Forest Service
aerial survey of September, 2003.
- Vegetation
Type (Dominant): CALVEG vegetation
types (all burned area).
