Vegetation Management Program and Proposition 40 Fuels Reduction Program

   My CA
 Fuels Reduction Program

Proposition 40 Fuels Reduction Program funding is available for fuel reduction projects conducted under the Vegetation Management Program (VMP), in the fifteen counties eligible for the Proposition 40 Program. VMP is a cost-share program with the objective of reducing the threat of wildland fires to values at risk using prescribed burning as the primary tool. VMP projects used under the Proposition 40 Fuels Reduction Program are specifically targeted at the reduction of fuel for the prevention of larger fires that impact watershed values.

Prescribed burns are conducted under the supervision of the California Department of Forestery and Fire Protection (CDF). CDF also assumes the liability for such burns. As a part of the Proposition 40 Fuels Reduction Program, up to 90% of the project cost may be funded by CDF with the remainder paid by the landowner. Eligible applicants are those that either own or have legal control of the property where the project is proposed. This includes public agencies with management authority over the proposed project area. Additional eligibility criteria may apply and can be obtained by contacting the local CDF Contact person as noted in the table below.

An overview of VMP is available elsewhere on CDF's website.

VMP project applications are accepted at any time. Completed applications are filed with the local CDF Unit.

For help in developing or applying for a Prop. 40 fuels reduction project under VMP, contact the Prop. 40 Fuels Reduction Program specialist at your local CDF Unit:
